Last week MMFCU donated two beds to a family in need in West Springfield. We had the pleasure of meeting Phin, his sister Ozzie, their mother Kelsey, and their Grandma Colleen. The whole family recently moved in with Grandma to make it easier to care for Phin and Ozzie during the summer months while Kelsey works. Phin has nonverbal autism, and he always has music playing! His favorite soundtrack is Frozen, he loves watching YouTube, and he thinks sharks are super cool! Ozzie is a protective younger sister who tries to keep up with Phin's energy and was so excited to have her own, new bed.
Each year MMFCU partners with A Bed for Every Child and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless to raise money to purchase beds for children in need in our community. This year our emmbership raised a total of $5,650--that's enough to buy 22 complete beds (twin mattress, box spring, bed frame, and linens)!
It's that time of year again! MMFCU's Calendar Contest begins April 1, and we want to see and hear about your favorite moments and photos from this year. Submit your photos with a small description to email@example.com, and we will post the pictures on our Facebook page. The 12 photos that get the most likes will be featured in our 2020 calendar with your name and location, so make sure to share and like the pictures you like best! For the entire month of April, MMFCU collected new and gently used children's books. This year, we collected over 1,257 books from our Springfield and Enfield locations--some of our members even mailed books in for donation! The books were donated to Pottenger Elementary School and Sumner Avenue School. Each book makes a difference in the life of a child. Thank you to everyone who donated a book this year! Young students are "Booking Their Vacation" with your very own donations all around our local community. Thank you for making a difference in our community!
